October is a favourite month. Karen and I have downtime as the holiday season is coming to an end, although beautiful Autumn weather usually keeps October relatively busy - particularly the weekly food markets. The Saturday market at Sarlat is one of the best and we always make time to visit.
You can overdose on garlic in the Perigord.
You can overdose on cheese.
OD on Oysters - for a slightly iodine hit.
You can almost certainly OD on good wine
Or chill out at one of the many pavement cafes.
Voilà!
Rob, it's a feast for the eyes!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tatyana. We always enjoy the markets. We were in Bordeaux last week and visited the large Marche des Capucins - wonderful.
DeleteI think that you have got your priorities right Rob when it comes to making a weekly market visit. Such riches! As always you have captured some characters in your photos.
ReplyDeleteHi Anna. Yep, there's plenty of characters at the market. I think we're going to head off to Bergerac market this Saturday and then drive around wine country, should get good pics if the leaf fall isn't too ahead - we had a strong breeze yesterday but hopefully it wasn't too much.
DeleteAutumn is the bonus holiday, we always go to spend our october holiday in the Montpellier region. These sunny, clear autumn days, where you go to the marché and buy the best local fruit and vegetables it´s magical. How I love being in France. Nice photos the really catch the mood of a sunday market.
ReplyDeleteHi Henrik. I couldn't have put it better myself. I hope you get to a marche soon.
DeleteGreat market photos - brings back memories of my time in Europe - nice. Jack
ReplyDeleteOctober is one of my favorite months too, and this year it was just gorgeous, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteI love Sarlat and used to manage to make some weekend trips up there -- it's not that terribly far away from Aveyron.
I just tracked you down through a comment you left on my blog, which was defunct for 3 years, in January 2010! It is interesting to see who is still out there. I have picked mine up again and it is really fascinating to go through the archives. Bravo for hanging in there!
