Les Printanières de la Brande

They're almost weekly now these spring plantfairs. May is a busy month. This weekend saw the annual two day event at La Brande, just past Vergt which incidentaly is at the centre of the world famous Dordogne strawberry production, just try a mara des bois, the world needs to know.

Always interesting characters at these events.

Clint Eastwood was there.

Beautiful part of the world.

    1. Thankyou, erm, I think. I'm assuming 'interesting' in a positive sense.

  2. That strawberry is amazing. I have been lucky enough to sample them and they are to die for! If I am correct their shelf life is very short so you have to force them down really quick, like that would be a problem! -Tonya

    1. You're correct. The shelf life isn't long as they always sold at their peak sweetness. They are superb.

  3. Seriously--twenty thousand dollars of organic compost, etc. per acre for growing strawberries? Do the berries cost more than truffles?

I've not had the famous mara des bois, but the berries from the spring market in Antibes last year were fabulous.

The plant fairs look like so much fun compared to going to a retail nursery.

    1. I didn't read that bit. I put that link in as it seemed a good explanation of that strawberry. Seems excessive to say the least! They are inexpensive treats over here. You can smell them in the markets from metres away.

The plant fairs are always a good day out and inevitably held at beautiful venues.

  4. Now those two guys in the third photo down look most familiar Rob. Have they appeared in a previous post ? Love the collection of watering cans. Presently waiting for some 'Mara des Bois' strawberry plants to arrive in the post but whether they will taste as good with just English sunshine to ripen them remains to be seen :)

    1. Anna those two fellas were there last year. Did't see Clint Eastwood until this year though.

Give the mara des bois the best. Small polytunnel if needs be. They are sensational.

    1. It was, but I find myself people watching as much as plants. There's always a good turnout so plenty to see.

  8. I have a small obsession with French watering cans. I also find myself buying a mismatch of the roses that spray the water. The event looks like fun. Something I miss a bit here in our quiet area. However, I am discovering, slowly more and more places to find more unusual plants.

  9. There were plenty of watering cans to satisfy your obsession! Good luck hunting out plant fairs.
